Hi,

Just got back today from the Pan Am Championships in Guatemala. I crashed twice and beat up my equipment, while finishing a disappointing 31st. I did gain enough UCI points to race World Cups in 2010 so at least that is taken care of.

Here's a link to my helmet cam run up on Sicklines TV: http://www.sicklines.com/tv/2010-guatemala-pan-am-championship-helmet-camera-with-geoff-ulmer/

I'm sure you can see how I beat up my poor bike down in Central America.

I'll have a couple weeks to recover before heading to Virginia for a Gravity East Series Race, May 1. Hopefully the results will be good for that one.

Geoff

Hello Everyone !!!!

Winter is almost a memory, hockey season is over and I’m riding bikes again. I’ve been putting road miles in during the past month. but this past weekend I got some downhill time in at my trails. I want to be in ready for my first race of 2010.

I was recently selected to race The UCI Pan-American Championships in Guatemala City, April 11th. This is my first selection to an Elite/Pro USA Cycling Team and I’m pretty happy for that. I saved enough over the winter to get there, so I won’t have to worry about getting there.

My schedule is packed with great events and my goals are high once again this season. I really will have to do my best all season to get selected to the USA Cycling World Championship Team this year. The past two years I was selected as a junior. This season I will be trying to get selected as an elite/pro rider. I have raced in the elite/pro class for the past couple years but not at the natinal or world champs. The World Championships are in Mount Saint Anne, QC, I’ve also race there before and know the track quite well.

I’m excited that the USA has a World Cup for the first time in many years. The race is at Windham Mountain, NY and only a few miles from my home. I’ve raced there several times. I’m really hoping for a good result..

After concentrating solely on downhill racing for the past few years, I will make a return to gated 4x racing. I have experience racing BMX when I was younger and that will help. It will make my weekends much busier, but should increase my exposure for sponsors.

My gear for 2010 has started to come in and I’m very happy with all the companies I represent and would like to thank them a ton for helping me. Without my supporters I would not be able to compete.

Keep an eye out for me on my website: geoffulmer.com. I will be posting helmet cam runs at all the races I attend. Sicklines.com is helping me out with that and will post the videos on their site. If you missed it, a my Bromont World Cup practice run is on their site at: http://www.sicklines.com/2009/08/03/bromont-world-cup-2009/#more-5731. You can also follow my my blog at Plattekill Bike Parks website.

I once again want to thank everyone that helped me get to the World Champs last year in Australia. I learned a valuable lesson in giving. In retrospect I was happy with my 15th place finish considering the track did not suit me or any North American rider well. I was the fastest junior competing from North America so that me me feel better.

I’ve had a sucessful year in school and have been busy getting ready for college, I’ll be studying engineering is college. I’m not sure where that will take me, I’m just going to do my best and enjoy the ride.

Expect to receive several updates throughout the season and hopefully with many podium pictures. If you do not wish to receive my updates, please reply and I’ll take you off the list.

Geoff Ulmer
www.geoffulmer.com

Victory at the “Last Chance For Glory” Race at Plattekill Bike Park

First Place in Pro Division helping me to a
2009 2nd Place Final USAC National Ranking

Last Update of 2009

Sadly this will be the last update I’ll be sending this season. Snow has started to fall and the ski resorts are gearing up for the winter. 2009 was the year I was going to rock the world, I was fully committed to showing everyone what I could do. After racing half of 2008 with a torn rotator cuff and the ensuing surgery, I thought I’d be ready. Even after a 6-month rehab and having my arm in a sling for 70 days, it was still not 100% and the winter training I did was not as effective as it should have been. This winter I’m working with a trainer and I’m back to playing hockey. So I should be ready. I learned some valuable lessons in 2009 and will use them to show everyone next year. Truthfully I can’t wait !!!

I did have some good results and highlights this year, I just know how much better it could have been. Some goals were achieved some were left unfulfilled.

I was happy to start and end the season with my first and second USAC Pro wins at Plattekill Bike Park. I love that place and want to show my competitors that I can win elsewhere in 2010.

Solid finishes in other races helped me finish the season with a second place in the Professional USA Cycling National Rankings, even though I was one race short of the maximum (10). This was due to 2 Gravity East Races not being sanctioned. Otherwise I might have been in the top spot.

Thanks to my number one ranking and results, I was get selected to represent the USA at the Canadian World Cup races. I also qualified, after several tries, for my first World Cup Final at Bromont, QC.

I was also chosen to represent the USA at the World Champs, for the second consecutive year. This time the World Champs were held in Australia. While I was not pleased with my 15th place finish, I did beat all the other North Americans. Take away all the Commonwealth racers who practiced that strange, flat course for over a year and I would have finished second.

However the most positive memory of 2009 will be the overwhelming feeling that friends, sponsors and even strangers gave me in helping me get to the World Championships. In the days that followed the selection, it was horrible knowing I had to call USA Cycling to inform them I couldn’t afford to go. I was ready to make that call when you guys donated and got me there. I will always remember those kind actions. Some day I will return that generosity to others, that I promise.

Thanks for taking the time to read these updates. Please let me know if you no longer wish to receive them. And if you work for or know of a company that might be interested in helping me out in 2010, let me know and I’ll send a resume.

Cheers,
Geoff
